Career Development Workshop Breakthrough Conversations, Communicating under Stress |
|||||||||||||
Last date for On-line Registration: Early Bird - 12/02/2013 Regular - 12/09/2013 Description: This workshop has the potential of being one of the most helpful workshops you have ever taken. Not only does it help you in your day-to-day challenges at work but in your personal life as well. Effective communication skills are essential for Project Managers and recent surveys indicate that 95% of respondents indicate that “tough” conversations are still avoided or not held very well. This workshop simplifies how to have those “tough” conversations so you can remain in dialogue and have workable results. Rather than watering down the message that needs to be delivered, learn how to make it safe enough to talk about anything. This is a practical workshop where you will work through real life examples. This workshop presents a model you can use right away as well as continue to challenge yourself to practice whenever a “tough” conversation opportunity surfaces. Project Sponsors, Managers, Coordinators who have a genuine desire to learn how to communicate more effectively should plan to attend. Course outline:

Tools and Techniques: Critical Question Mapping – A different slant on project planning |
|
Last date for On-line Registration: 12/02/2013 Synopsis: Critical Question Mapping – A different slant on project planning Critical Question Mapping is a project planning approach that starts with the ultimate question for your project or critical phase, and then works backwards in creating highly logical, and properly ordered, sub-questions. The organization of these sub-questions makes obvious decision points as well as the activities needed to answer the questions and make the decisions along the way. Too often in projects we focus on the activities and PUSH those activities into our plan. In Critical Question Mapping, the various questions PULL the activities into the plan, and at the proper time. Teams using this approach have found that they are more successful at meeting or beating schedule, reducing late term changes, avoiding late term set-backs, and even team cohesion and collaboration have been cited as being improved by this approach to planning. What you will see and experience • How questions drive certain beneficial behaviors • The 4 steps in the process • How you can apply the process to work you are doing • Delivered through a blend of presentation and interactive practice About the Speaker:
Paul Slaikeu, PMP, has spent his professional career in the medical device business working for medium to large companies developing novel technologies and products for the market. Trained as a chemist, Paul began his career as a polymer scientist, began managing projects in 1992, and became PMP certified in 1999. Paul has managed multiple projects over many years, managed other Project and Program Managers, and currently works for Boston Scientific as a corporate Project Management leader and developer of new training programs to improve project, and project team, performance. Outside of work, Paul is involved in church leadership, tends to his hobby vineyard, and is an award winning amateur winemaker. |
