Project Management Institute – Silicon Valley Chapter (PMI-SV) has long pledged to community engagement and social impact. The chapter has partnered with Second Harvest of Silicon Valley for a volunteer outreach event since 2024 on ongoing basis. The last event of 2025 was held on 26 December at the organization’s Cypress Center in San Jose, this event brought together PMI-SV volunteers in support of an influential operation: improving food security for few hundred thousand of community members across bay area.
December 2025 initiative was led by twenty dedicated PMI-SV volunteers— Patrick Alexander, Christian Basa, Samantha Beral, Cara Bilinski, Dalad Chalalai, Sophia Chao, Esther Chen, Eugene Chen, Angela Dobbins, William Haskell, Anders Hellgren, Koichi Hiura, Regina Holleman, Clara Leece, Eric Lutter, Lana Mcintire, Fernando Teixeira, Jonathan Wong, Tasha Tenturier and Nehru Chevanan.
Outcomes and Impact
We have found that event is very impactful and offers multiple learnings from project management view.
- Collaboration: seamless collaboration with Second Harvest staff and PMISV volunteers
- Risk Management: Safety protocols were reviewed and followed, resulting in a zero-incident event
- Positive Change: Volunteers directly contributed to food distribution operations, amplifying Second Harvest’s reach and operational capacity
As a token of appreciation and to recognize their contribution to the community, each participant earned 2.0 Professional Development Units (PDUs) under the Giving Back category of PMI’s Talent Triangle®. These PDUs support the ongoing certification requirements of our PMI credential holders and emphasize the value of social responsibility within the project management profession.
Special thanks to our PMI-SV project leads, Ramneik and Nehru, for their exceptional coordination and commitment, and to Nehru Chevanan, who served as the liaison with Second Harvest and ensured a seamless bridge between both organizations.
