Initial establishment of requirements for holding Board Office; under Bylaws version 2017

 
This policy establishes the minimum requirements to hold office as a PMI-SV Board of Director, whether elected or appointed. The intent is to ensure the Chapter’s officers have experience in current operations, understand project management and its knowledge base, are locally available to execute the duties of their office, have exhibited exemplary and ethical behaviors through their career, and are trustworthy.
 
The below five officers will serve on next year’s PMI-SV chapter's Board. All the Elected officers will have a term that begins on January 1, 2026, and ends on December 31, 2026 except VP-Strategy, whose term will run from July 1, 2026 to June 30, 2027

 

President
 
The role of the President is to be the chief officer of the Chapter. The President chairs Board meetings, is the principal point of contact to PMI.org, and is responsible for the overall health and direction of the Chapter.  The President is responsible for educational and community outreach, Marketing and social media, and Member Services.
 

● Must be past Board member of PMI-SV, serving at least one full term of office in the last five years (E.g: to be eligible for President in 2025 must be a board member and completed full term after 2019)

● Must not have left the last hold board position without completing full term for any reason.

● Must have maintained membership and been an active volunteer, in a senior leadership position(s), in PMI-SV, over the past 4 years and is a current member, in good standing.

● Must hold a 4-year college degree.

● Must have 4,500 hours of leading and directing projects, in the last 10 years.

● Must have at least one project management certification from PMI .

● Must not travel greater than 20% of the normal work week.

● Must NOT have any record of censures or disciplinary actions by PMI-SV, PMI® and/or any other components of PMI®.

● Must pass a criminal background check and credit report check.

● Must not be an active volunteer of another PMI Chapter

● Performance will be evaluated in April of the year by VP Strategy (incumbent), VP Finance and VP Administration and if found unsatisfactory may be asked to follow an improvement plan or may be asked to step down

 

Vice President – Administration
 
The VP Administration keeps the records of all Silicon Valley PMI Chapter business matters (except those relating to finance), interfaces with the PMI GOC, and manages the reporting of chapter business metrics. The VP Administration also manages core IT infrastructure and Volunteer Services.
 

● Must have maintained membership and been an active volunteer, in a senior leadership position(s), in PMI-SV, over the past 3 years and is a current member, in good standing.

● Must hold a 4-year college degree.

● Must have 4,500 hours of leading and directing projects in the last 10 years

● Must have 35 hours of formal project management certification from PMI

● Must not travel greater than 20% of the normal workweek.

● Must NOT have any record of censures or disciplinary actions by PMI-SV, PMI® and/or any other components of PMI®.

● Must not be an active volunteer of another PMI Chapter

● Performance will be evaluated in April of the year by the President, VP Strategy (incumbent), and VP Finance and if found unsatisfactory may be asked follow an improvement plan or may be asked to step down

 
Vice President – Finance
 
The VP Finance oversees the management of funds and financial matters for the Chapter. 
 

● Must have maintained membership and been an active volunteer, in a senior leadership position(s), in PMI-SV, over the past 3 years and is a current member, in good standing.

●Must not have left the last hold board position without completing full term for any reason inlast 3 years.

● Must hold a 4-year college degree.

● Must have 4,500 hours of leading and directing projects in the last 10 years

● Must have 35 hours of formal project management certification from PMI

● Must not travel greater than 20% of the normal workweek.

● Must NOT have any record of censures or disciplinary actions by PMI-SV, PMI® and/or any other components of PMI®.

Vice President – Operations
 
The VP Operations leads the operations of the Silicon Valley PMI Chapter. This position oversees Program and Workshop events, Event website Marketing, Operations Process Improvements, Speakers Bureau, and Event Facilities management.
 

● Must have maintained membership and been an active volunteer, in a senior leadership position(s), in PMI-SV, over the past 3 years and is a current PMI-SV member, in good standing.

● Must hold a 4-year college degree.

● Must have 4,500 hours of leading and directing projects in the last 10 years

● Must have 35 hours of formal project management certification from PMI

● Must not travel greater than 20% of the normal workweek.

● Must NOT have any record of censures or disciplinary actions by PMI-SV, PMI® and/or any other components of PMI®.

● Must not be an active volunteer of another PMI Chapter

● Performance will be evaluated in April of the year by the President, VP Strategy (incumbent), VP Finance and if found unsatisfactory may be asked to follow an improvement plan or may be asked to step down

Vice President – Strategy

The VP Strategy ensures continuity and sustainability of operations and overall transition of activities across PMI-SV board members between two calendar years. 

● Must have served one or more full terms as a Board Member of PMISV in the last seven years (e.g. 2021 Must be a Board Member 2014-2020), with a Board service gap of at least six months before appointment.

● Must have maintained membership and been an active volunteer, in a senior leadership position(s), in PMI-SV, over the past 5 years and is a current member, in good standing.

● Must hold a 4-year college degree.

● Must have 4,500 hours of leading and directing projects in the last 10 years

● Must have 35 hours of formal project management certification from PMI

● Must not travel greater than 20% of the normal workweek. Must not have left the last hold board position without completing full term for any reason in last 3 years.

● Must NOT have any record of censures or disciplinary actions by PMI-SV, PMI® and/or any other components of PMI®.

● Must not be an active volunteer of another PMI Chapter

● Performance will be evaluated in April of the year by the President, VP Finance and VP Administration and if found unsatisfactory may be asked to follow an improvement plan or may be asked to step down

 

In addition to the above, the PMI-SV bylaws contain additional limitations applicable to all prospective officers; For example, and not limited to:
● Article V; Section 13 – A limitation to 5 consecutive terms of Board service.
● Article X; Section 6 – No Board members can be related.
Change to this policy is detailed in Bylaws Article V; Section 8, which specifies a delayed effective date based on approval date.
