Career Management Seminar: Avoiding Measurement Failure: Project Metrics Done Right

Effective project control depends on measurement.  While there are many things you can measure on any given project, selecting the right metrics can spell the difference between success and being overwhelmed by catastrophe.

Useful metrics are of several types.  Predictive metrics are central to thorough project planning, supporting effective estimation, scheduling, and resource planning.  During projects, diagnostic metrics focus on problem detection, status reporting, and overall control.  At project close, retrospective metrics reveal trends, systemic risks, opportunities for process improvement, and validation of estimation and other planning techniques.

Following the presentation, attendees will:

•          Understand the process of selecting project metrics

•          Appropriately choose from a range practical measurement options

•          Use metrics to control and successfully complete their projects
