PM Insights-Sunnyvale: A Program Journey to Agile Transformation

Presentation Description:

Slides for this event are available here :  pdf A Program Journey to Agile Transformation

Agile as a buzzword has gained very high visibility and prominence in the recent years.  Why is Agile important? How does Agile help in managing projects successfully?  What does the journey (of a waterfall program) to agile look like? What factors contribute to the success? These are some of the questions we will address in our presentation.

The presentation discusses the profile of a program – how it looked before the journey started, what were the issues plaguing the teams, program and business. We then take a look at what steps we took to initially form the self-organizing teams, how we setup the roles and responsibilities of the teams, and how we let them execute. The presentation then covers how different lean principles were applied over the months and releases to make sure that the return on investment (ROI) continued to improve over the period.

In conclusion, we show that programs embracing Agile and Lean principles and practices succeed through higher productivity, greater returns, higher quality, customer satisfaction and employee satisfaction.

Takeaways:

•       How a concrete set of principles and practices help in the transition to Agile

About the Speaker

Prakash Bettadapur, Cisco Systems

pbettada@cisco.com; pbettada@gmail.com;

Prakash Bettadapur is an Agile Evangelist and Transformation Lead in Cisco Systems, specifically leading this effort in Cisco Services Technology Group and Services Platform Group. He has helped transform a 2000+ members organization to Agile, and the journey continues. In addition, he leads several engineering programs in the business unit, partnering with other cross-function teams. Prakash believes that Agile effectiveness must be proven by actually leading programs and products by example, and not by letting Agile be run as a process. Agile is a mindset, and right decisions must be applied every moment.

Prakash Bettadapur has 30+ Years of Software Development experience. He has spent the last 20 years promoting Agile and Lean development philosophies and guiding most of the programs to success. He started with Agile Scrum in Cisco about 10 years ago, when his teams were part of building the next generation IOS-XE operating system, proving ultra-large scale systems can be built using Agile methodologies.

Prakash holds several Agile Scrum and Scaled Agile certifications (CSM, CSPO, CSP, SAFe Program Consultant (SPC)) in addition to being a technology leader.
