Description:
This technology applications workshop, provides participants a complete understanding how to leverage project and program technology to forecast schedule and resource outcomes utilizing universal best practices that unfortunately are not available from software manufacturers themselves. Enterprise wide web visibility of accurate schedule and resource forecasts that allow reaction time by project managers and line, middle, and executive management to remedy troubled outcomes result in high performance results. These technology applications have been especially effective in complex PM environments where multiple project and programs are competing for the same resources and are demonstrated using two Fortune 200 company case studies --both resulting in 20% Time to Market improvements.
How is it possible the use of the six most robust PPM (Portfolio, Project Management) technologies (ref: Gardner) available today will not guarantee success?
There exists a structured PM maturity approach to adoption of high value PPM technologies that involves twenty (20+) dynamic scheduling and resource capacity management best practices. These drive high performance success of those organizations that have discovered them. The technology example focus in the workshop is Microsoft Project/ Project Server due to its very large US installed base.
- The primary participant takeaway is that exiting spreadsheets can be achieved through use of just twenty (20+) best practices required to master standalone project technology tools
- Discover that 90% of EPM transition capabilities come from dynamic scheduling and resource capacity functionality in standalone project technology
- The participant will better understand their organization readiness to transition to Enterprise Project Management (EPM) technology when the amount of multiple project complexity demands for the same resources require higher performance project/ program results
- Envision by example how the project technology best practices and project technology elements were successfully used in two Fortune 200 companies both attaining high performance results
- Understand the characteristics of complex projects & programs causing performance failures and the most robust PPM technologies that when utilized correctly can provide solutions to complexity
- Discover the missing “tenth body of knowledge”—Project Technology elements that are not contained in the PMBOK and how they can be used
Workshop will provide a takeaway that any of the high value PPM Technology tools—including the likelihood the participant’s PPM tool of choice is included--- can drive high performance results by utilizing the twenty (20+) dynamic scheduling and resource capacity best practices. These capabilities provide the participant the ability to forecast outcome on schedules and resources allowing reaction time to remedy those that are troubled—thus dramatically improving project performance results.
